I went to the city one day to take photos and yes I ventured to Hosier Lane. While I love a lot of the graffiti art down there I feel like taking photos of graffiti is more relying on the graffiti artists ability rather than my photography skills. However one thing that I love down there are all the bars over the windows. The thing I think I loved about this was the repetitive nature.

Bars in Hosier
I went to the city one day to take photos and yes I ventured to Hosier Lane. While I love a lot of the graffiti art down there I feel like taking photos of graffiti is more relying on the graffiti artists ability rather than my photography skills. However one thing that I love down there are all the bars over the windows. The thing I think I loved about this was the repetitive nature.
Abandon Road Works
How often do you pass road works where the speed limit is reduced to 40kms to protect the workers on the site only to find that they have all packed up and gone home. In my area at the moment there has been works on the side of the road now for at least 3 months without any further improvements. The signs to slow down to 40kms are still up but there has not been a worker there for months. Or on the Princes freeway heading inbound there were often signs advising us to slow down to 60kms and a lane closure to protect well nothing there was no-one to be seen. This is when I thought it would be funny to photograph abandon road works. However the downside is that each time I saw this I didn't have a camera on me or was in a hurry to get somewhere so I never actually captured any photos but i think this is a project I will work on oneday.
Signs
One theme that seems to be reoccurring in my exploration of photography seems to be typology. I seem to photograph quite a few signs. I have both colour and black and white images. The trouble I had with taking photos of signs was the angle at which the photos were taken at. This seemed to alter how the sign photographed. Another issue I had with photographing signs was I got board quite easily. It was fun to try and I do find myself looking at signs more often now but they were just not the subject for the final folio.
Ash Trays
Ash trays are often seen as something quite unattractive but after exploring footscray I discovered something quite beautiful. As a subject for a photograph they actually look very interesting. The one thing that really stood out was the limited pallet. After shooting in Footscray I discovered that I enjoyed shooting in black and white, however with an ash tray as a subject it is possible to include colour. Just think about the standard ash trays you have seen most are black, silver or a clear glass. And the tables they sit on are usually a black, white or grey. The cigarette buts themselves are either white or orange and the ash a black, grey and white. This limited pallet allowed me to shoot the ash trays in colour and brought an element of control to the photograph. However after shooting a few ash trays I found it hard to control the composition and the lighting of the photos.
On the Side

An Idea I originally had for my final folio was thing you find on the side of the road. I live in an area where there are quite frequently cars dumped on the side of the road after being burnt. I found this car one day and the thing I found most strange was the dumped tv. When I first came across this car the TV had been placed on the bonnet of the car. When I went back the next day to photograph it the TV had been moved to just beside the car. In these photos I love the way the blue sky contrasts with the earthy tones of the ground and the car.
